The Midwest Academy is a national training institute committed to advancing the struggle for social, economic, and racial justice. From local neighborhood groups to statewide and national organizations and labor unions, Midwest Academy has trained over thirty thousand grassroots activists from hundreds of organizations and coalitions. Midwest Academy teaches organizing tools that help people go from being angry to effectively winning public policy changes. Courses and consulting services are designed for progressive organizations, labor unions and coalitions that utilize civic engagement activities to build citizen power at all levels of our democracy.
The mission of the Academy is based on three principles:
1. to help people win real improvements in their lives,
2. get a sense of their own power,
3. alter the relations of power by bulding strong, ongoing organizations working for social justice.
We provide training and consulting in the basic skills of community organizing, and run a summer internship program to encourage young people to consider careers in social justice work.
