About Us

The St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation (STENAPA) is a not for profit organisation that manages two National Parks, a Marine Park and a Botanical Garden on the island of St Eustatius. The Quill is a dormant volcano with national park status; its perfect crater harbours a tropical rainforest. The Northern Hills also have national park status. The Marine Park surrounds the entire island from the high water mark to 30 metre depth with a variety of healthy, coral reef habitats. The Botanical Garden was created in 1998 to preserve an area of St Eustatius for local and regional plants and trees, and provide an area for education of youth. STENAPA's primary objective is environmental protection.

STENAPA is guided by a Board of nine directors and activities are managed by a small team of eight employees. Interns play a major role in activities for the three national park sectors and also oversee a team of eight international volunteers coming from Working Abroad, a not for profit organisation established in the UK. Interns stay in a basic house at the Botanical Gardens and have their own vehicle for out of office hours.

St. Eustatius is located in the Dutch Caribbean and together with sister islands Saba and St. Maarten, form the windward islands of the Netherlands Antilles. The island is predominantly English speaking with a population of 3200.
