About Us

The Houston-Galveston Area Agency on Aging aims to help Older Texans have a better quality of life and quality of care through advocacy efforts in nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Be an Ombudsman (advocate) for the residents of local nursing homes and assisted living communities, and help monitor the quality of care they receive. You could be the only advocate and visitor some residents receive. If you have good communication skills and a deep concern for the well-being of the elderly and disabled, you'll receive in-depth training and certification that will equip you to work with a nursing home's staff and residents in mediating problems that arise. Volunteer according to your schedule. Time commitment can range from a couple times a month to once a week and ask for 1 year of service.
