Southern California Institute for Research and Education

The Southern California Institute for Research and Education (SCIRE) seeks to advance the health and care of Veterans through research studies and educational programs that produce innovative and effective solutions to Veteran and national healthcare problems.

SCIRE is unique because of its focus on health issues that affect Veterans. The research process starts with a tight focus on the everyday health needs and concerns of Veterans. Solutions are identified and developed through careful, rigorous research in labs and clinics, and sometimes in the community. The solutions are then disseminated through publications and go to inform patient care, or translated into new or improved programs.

The Southern California Institute for Research and Education (SCIRE) is a not-for-profit research corporation, dedicated to its vision that every Veteran will receive the finest research-based care. SCIRE fosters dynamic collaborations with VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Research, University of California, Irvine, other federal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and private industry—thus furthering the program's impact on the health of Veterans and the nation.

SCIRE is a 501© (3) non-profit company incorporated in the state of California promoting VA research, education and training operating as part of the VA Long Beach Healthcare system as authorized by Title 38, United States Code and sections 7361 through 7368 and other applicable VHA, state and federal regulations.. The company was founded in 1989 for the purpose of facilitating Medical Research and Education by providing sponsors and investigators a comprehensive research resource management for the benefit of humanity and Veterans in particular. SCIRE has an annual budget over $4 million and approximately 80 employees.
