CA Health Care Safety Net Institute

About Us

Established in 1999, the California Health Care Safety Net Institute (SNI) believes that public hospital systems are essential to their communities, providing good quality care to everyone who needs it, including the under- and uninsured. SNI serves the 21 public hospital systems who are members of the California Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (CAPH), which consist of county hospitals, academic medical centers, and their affiliated public clinics--the core of the state’s public health care safety net.

SNI helps public hospitals spread the innovations taking place in their institutions, and helps them continue to improve patient care by facilitating team-based initiatives and connecting these improvement teams with critical partners and resources. We offer our members the support they need to develop innovative strategies, share best practices, and obtain expertise and peer support so they can fully achieve their potential as integrated delivery systems--where every patient who walks through their doors gets the right care at the right time.

As the research and quality improvement affiliate of CAPH, SNI also works to promote a broader understanding of the role public hospitals and health systems play in improving community health
