About Us

Climate Central is an independent, non-profit journalism and research organization. We are dedicated to helping mainstream Americans understand how climate change connects to them, and arming our audiences with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their future.

We do this by:

  • Telling local and personal stories through multimedia journalism, establishing the immediacy and relevance of climate impacts, adaptation measures, and preventive solutions.
  • Breaking news with in-house scientific research and interactive graphics that localize the issues.
  • Generating high-quality, easily accessible content for use on our website, with journalism partners, and through other distribution outlets.
  • Employing a team of nationally-recognized journalists and scientists with established relationships in their respective communities.

Polls show low levels of public understanding and concern about climate change. This coincides with an overall drop in topical news coverage. Climate Central fills the void by not only covering climate science and solutions on a local level, but also framing the issues in a larger context.

Organizations that have broadcast, published, or otherwise used our content include PBS, The Weather Channel, The New York Times, NPR, The Washington Post, MSNBC,, Scientific American, Parade, and National Geographic.
