Americans for Cures Foundation

About Us

Americans for Cures is a patient advocate-led non-profit organization (501c3) whose mission is to advance medical research and therapy development for chronic diseases and injuries through public policy and outreach. By expanding public awareness of stem cell research breakthroughs and supporting policies that increase medical research funding, we seek to change the stem cell and medical research landscape in California, the country, and the world.

In 2004, Americans for Cures successfully managed the campaign for Proposition 71: the California Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative, which was approved by over 7 million California voters and winning over 59% of the vote. The Initiative authorized $3 billion to fund stem cell research in California and established California’s public stem cell funding agency, the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine. To date, Proposition 71 and CIRM has resulted in over 2,000 peer-reviewed published medical discoveries, 15 global partnerships between California and other countries, 29 human clinical trials that are either completed, ongoing, or will begin within the next six months, and the establishment of 12 Institutes and/or Centers of Excellence sponsored by and located on the preeminent California universities.

Our advocacy efforts are at the intersection of politics, policy, and science. We provide critical strategic, communications, and material support to educate the public and drive forward lifesaving stem cell research. As part of our public education campaign, we count on a network of Californian opinion leaders, world-class scientists, politicians, U.S. Ambassadors, and key thought leaders in science, politics, and policy.
