Nyingma Institute in Berkeley
The Nyingma Institute, founded in 1972, is one of the oldest Tibetan Buddhist centers of learning in the U.S, and the first to offer teachings on mind and well-being from a Nyingma perspective to the general public. As a teaching center, it has made an historic impact as part of a broader movement of the transmission of Dharma into American culture, and also as a gateway for all the students who went on to become the first generation of volunteers and directors of the mandala of organizations that Rinpoche created.
One of the great strengths and genius of the Nyingma Institute is that it balances traditional Dharma Studies and Nyingma practices with a modern sensibility of how to clarify confusion and transform the suffering of "mind" in our culture so that we can live as wakefully and meaningfully as possible. Our mission is to share the healing wisdom of the Nyingma tradition and reveal a path of inner freedom.
