About Us

The Policy Innovation Lab was established in 2014 with support from the Social Innovation Fund (a White House initiative and program of the Corporation for National and Community Service), the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, and the James Lee Sorenson Foundation to facilitate high-quality intervention. The mission of the Lab is to improve outcomes for at-risk individuals in communities around the Western U.S. through the development and implementation of innovative models like outcomes-based financing (“pay for success”) that involve collaborations between the private, public and nonprofit sectors to deliver evidence-backed, high impact interventions. Together with Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, the Lab at the University of Utah is one of only two academic institutions providing technical assistance to governments, nonprofits and private sector funders on these innovative projects around the country.
