Book Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to empower children from low-income families to choose and own books, inspiring a passion for reading, developing literacy skills, and fostering life-long learning. Over 60% of low-income families have no books in the home and access to books is one of the leading predictors of success in school. For $70 per student per school year, participating students get to order $7 worth of books each month of the school year from Scholastic Books Clubs. Typically this is 2 to 3 books a month or 18 to 20 books over the course of the school year. Book Trust currently serves 30,000 students in 10 states. Book Trust is a dynamic, rapidly expanding national organization with start-up characteristics.
