About Us

For over 65 years, 1st Cerebral Palsy of New Jersey, Inc. has been providing supports to children and adults with intellection and/or mobiity challenges. The initial mission of the agency was to provide children with the opportunity to be educated and receive therapy supports within one location. Since the agency open, services were expanded to include daytime supports for adults and residential supports for adults.

Using an interdisciplinary approach the agency serves individual three years of age until twenty one years of age in a school setting. A strong emphasis is paid to academics while also receiving physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. In addition to traditional special education teachers and therapist, the school has an adaptive physical education teacher, social worker, nurse, computer lab teacher, as well as a principal.

Under the direction of a nurse, the agency operates a medical day program for adults. Emphasis is paid to provide medical monitoring, meaningful social activity, and a variety sensory activities. In addition to the nurse, the program has a licensed social worker, activities coordinator, and activities assistants.

As mentioned earlier, the agency provides residential supports to eighteen individuals. The group homes are located in Essex County, NJ. Under the direction of the Administrator and Senior Coordinator, the managers and skill instructors provide supervision, recreational activity, medication administration and various habilitation activities. These residence also have a registered nurse.

In conclusion, the agency seeks to provide a high quality level of supports to children and adults in New Jersey so as to increase independence in all areas, ensure happiness and provide safety.
