Park Heights Community Health Alliance, Inc.
The Park Heights Community Health Alliance, Inc. (PHCHA) seeks to collaborate in the improvement of the health of Baltimore's Park Heights community through wellness initiatives, environmentalism, health education, and service in partnership with community organizations, businesses, and individuals. PHCHA's goal is to help maximize the Park Heights community's potential as a healthy, safe and vital neighborhood.
Park Heights has been designated a Medically Underserved Area by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Health indicators for the area show the leading causes of death are heart disease, cancer, HIV, stroke, respiratory, disease, and diabetes. PHCHA tries to address these issues by assisting uninsured individuals obtain health care coverage, offering fitness and exercise programs, healthy eating workshops, and providing assistance to uninsured individuals and community members to help them become advocates in their own health.
Park Heights Community Health Alliance (PHCHA) was organized in 1996 under the joint partnership of residents of the Park Heights community and Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Afya Center at Park Heights, where we are housed, opened in 2007.
