Shine Together, Inc. empowers young women who become mothers as teens to achieve their full potential in school and as parents, so two generations thrive. We believe that education is the key to maximizing each person’s potential and making communities strong. We know that when young mothers are given the right supports and access to opportunities, their families, neighborhoods, and society at large benefit. 

Our two-generation approach involves partnering with young mothers to heal trauma, build skills and a future mindset, and address the barriers they face to being successful in school and in life. We support young mothers in finding solutions to challenges in order to achieve the following goals:

• Complete high school and post-secondary education, and
• Develop the knowledge and skills to nurture their child’s positive development. 

Shine Together, Inc. was founded in 2011 in response to the lack of programs laser focused on supporting young families to achieve economic mobility. What began as a weekly peer support group for young mothers has transformed into a an evidenced-informed and research-based program providing comprehensive supports for both young mothers and their children, ensuring two generations thrive. 

Shine Together, Inc. has supported over 1,600 families since our founding. Every year, over 85% of our program participants graduate from high school, as compared to 38% of teen mothers nationally. The children of the young mothers we work with are thriving as well, with close to 90% meeting their linguistic milestones which is setting them up to be kindergarten ready.
