Media Enterprise Alliance
Media Enterprise Alliance (MEA) provides low-income, inner-city high school students in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) with the opportunity to study media arts with a focus on video production. Through a curriculum that reflects state and district arts education standards, students acquire artistic and technical skills that give them a voice to effect social change within their community, while developing tools to satisfy the necessary requirements for college admission and successful job placement.
MEA strengthens communities, retains youth in high school through graduation, enhances the arts and cultural experience for students, and prepares underserved youth for higher education. While producing informational films for non-profits and features for a television news magazine, students are exposed first-hand to community problems and become an active part of the solutions.
