About Us

Alley’s House was formed in February 1997 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation on the heels of the Welfare Reform Act of 1996, to provide comprehensive services to teen mothers.  The organization's strategic plan focuses on organizational stability, program growth, and transformative learning. We know that when we empower teen mothers to achieve independence that they experience higher educational attainment, reduced dependency on government services, increased earning potential, reduced likelihood of repeat teen births, and higher self-esteem and self-worth.

For the first eight years, the organization was completely volunteer-based with programs offered in a local church. Eventually, the organization expanded, and now the agency’s offices are located at 4113 Junius Street. Alley’s House has four staff members, three counseling interns, and countless volunteers. Our growth plan includes providing additional service delivery options, partnering with local school districts, and creating a job pipeline program.

Alley’s House provides a nurturing, stable environment to help teen mothers overcome obstacles and become thriving women through counseling, innovative learning, and workforce development.

Alley’s House vision is to empower teen mothers with the capabilities to achieve academic success, personal growth, and financial independence to live a richer, more fulfilling life for themselves and their families.

Alley’s House is dedicated to the following values:

  1. The mother’s function and impact in the family
  2. A nurturing environment for mothers and their children
  3. A respectful, nonjudgmental culture
  4. The mental, physical, and emotional well-being of every mother
  5. Being an active participant in the community
  6. Open dialogue with stakeholders
