About Us

The Andean Bear Foundation's mission is to secure a future for the Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus) and sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of its natural habitat of montane cloud forest and páramos (high-altitude grasslands) in Ecuador. Through research, education, reintroduction of rescued orphaned bears, and science-based advocacy, we, as frontline conservationists, are committed to working with local communities to help people and Andean bears live together without conflict.

The Andean Bear Foundation supports the Andean Bear Conservation Project, which is based in Ecuador. There are opportunities for volunteers to help with data collection in the field.

Time is running out for the Andean Bear. The tranquil cloud forests of the Andean mountain ranges, where these bears live, are rapidly disappearing. Without a better understanding of the bears' needs there is no way to implement a strategy for their conservation, protection and survival.

The Andean Bear Foundation is a 501(c)(3) registered non-profit.

We have tried many times to upload our logo, but unfortunately the Idealist system is not working properly.
