The American Academy in Berlin is a private, non-profit center for advanced study whose mission is to establish new intellectual and professional ties between Germans and Americans by offering one or two semester fellowships in a variety of humanities and social science fields, including literary and visual arts, music, history, law, journalism, international economics, and public affairs. Through a competitive selection process, the Academy awards approximately 25 fellowships to gifted Americans or U.S. residents to pursue an independent project while living in the Academy's Hans Arnhold Center in Berlin. The Academy also invites Distinguished Visitors to visit the Center for a week or more.
