    The Rufus Porter Museum helps to preserve and promote regional heritage for society and future generations as well as educate and enhance access to the traditional arts of New England. The museum exhibits nineteenth century folk art, including original wall murals painted by Rufus Porter and his school of artists. The museum offers educational opportunities in the traditional arts. Also on display are many of Rufus Porter's inventions and an extensive collection of Scientific American newspapers of which Porter was the founder and original editor.

    The mission of the Rufus Porter Museum is to increase the enjoyment, knowledge, and pride of our communities by bringing to life the world and the inspiring works of Rufus Porter—a remarkable American artist and inventor
