About Us

The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. was established in 1991 as a 501(c(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and development of the Apollo Theater, a historic landmark on the city, state and federal levels.

The Apollo's mission is:

- to celebrate and promote the cultural heritage and performance traditions of communities of color;

- to preserve and build upon the theater's rich history by serving as a cultural and educational resource for community residents and visitors, honoring the legendary artists who played the Apollo and providing a platform for aspiring amateur performers; and,

- to serve as a home for artists, productions and cultural events that are fundamentally connected to the Harlem community.

The Apollo Theater Foundation manages, funds and programs the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem - serving as a cultural, educational and economic community resource and a home for diverse artists, productions and cultural events.
