Sages & Seekers

Sages & Seekers is a non-profit organization running intergenerational programs designed to develop empathy and diminish social isolation. Working with the two most marginalized age groups in America, we meet the universal and compelling need of both young adults (Seekers) and elders (Sages) to make sense of their lives. Our programs fill a distinct gap for local public school students and for elders, promoting the development of thoughtful, inclusive community and social emotional skills. These skills help students lay the groundwork for positive futures in an increasingly diverse world, while it brings value to older lives that may feel forgotten. 

S&S’s Vision: A resurgence of community, dissolving age-related segregation.

S&S’s Mission: To diminish ageism by bringing two marginalized generations together (teens and elderly) to foster respectful relationships, paying tribute to our Elderly and empowering our Teens.

S&S's Strategy: To build community by bringing teens and elders together through an eight-week program designed to foster meaningful relationships while dissolving age related preconceptions. The program nurtures the Sage/Seeker relationship, resulting in a biographical piece honoring the elder as well as improving student skills in listening, interviewing, writing and public speaking. Ultimately, the relationship developed between the two generations creates respect, understanding, more confident individuals and stronger communities.

S&S’s History: Sages&Seekers began with the simple idea of inviting Senior citizens to share their wisdom with teens. The first program was introduced into the after- school community service curriculum of a private school and nearby Senior Center. Since then, the success of Sages & Seekers for both the teen and the elder has catapulted the program into the English, History and Humanities curriculum in 8 different schools, mostly in the Massachusetts area, as well as countless Senior Centers, Low-Income Housing Facilities and Retirement Communities.
