Rogue Scholar is a non-profit research group dedicated to building community through artistic, social, and educational collaboration.
Rogue Scholar facilitates research and conversations that advance community needs first: social and environmental urban sustainability, justice, and cultural vitality. We rethink the classical terms of participation to include people not typically considered researchers: for example, the works produced by artists, writers, musicians, and designers similarly answer questions through creative inspiration and invention. Professionals in the public and private sectors are also addressing social issues from other perspectives. Students are exploring these complexities outside academic venues of publication. We believe that accessible dialogue across and between people of different backgrounds and experiences can be fruitful, productive, and community-building.
We call this philosophy community-oriented research: the community enriches the research, and in turn, the research enriches the community.
