About Us

Girls Rock! Rochester is dedicated to empowering girls through music creation and performance. By providing educational workshops and technical training, we foster creativity while cultivating a supportive community of peers and mentors, encouraging social change and the development of life and leadership skills that girls can utilize to help guide them throughout life.

Statement of Purpose

By providing educational music lessons and workshops that foster creativity, we hope to encourage girls to explore their self-expressive creative outlets that may not have been explored otherwise. We believe that young girls in today’s society are at a disadvantage as they are often pressured from a young age to conform to gender stereotypes that have been preconceived by society and the mainstream media. Girls Rock! Rochester strives to empower girls by using rock music as a tool to harness their inner “rock star,” helping to develop self confidence and a strong mind. We are committed to providing a supportive community of female peers and mentors throughout this educational experience so that girls can be themselves, and most importantly, have fun.

Non-Discrimination Policy

Girls Rock! Rochester does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national and/or ethnic origin, marital status, sexual orientation, mental or physical ability, or gender identity or expression in the administration of any of its educational programs, admissions policies, scholarships, and other Camp-related policies and programs, as well as volunteer and employment-related policies and activities.

Girls Rock! Rochester welcomes individuals who self-identify as female, trans, and gender non-conforming to apply for leadership positions at camp. Non-leadership roles are open to individuals who self-identify as female, male, trans, and gender non-conforming. For more information, see the job descriptions for volunteer positions.

A special note to male-identified allies: Girls Rock! Rochester is primarily led by and for women and girls. We also value diversity, inclusion, and sensitivity towards all individuals, regardless of gender identity or expression. The organization welcomes the support of male-identified allies, and expects male-identified allies who would like to volunteer to respect the importance of leadership by women.
