We are a non-profit research institute dedicated to documenting
endangered languages around the world. Founded by linguist Dr. Gregory
D. S. Anderson, the Living Tongues Institute’s objective is to promote
the documentation, maintenance, preservation, and revitalization of
endangered languages worldwide through linguist-aided, community-driven,
multimedia language documentation projects.Since 2005, Living Tongues Institute has reached more than one hundred
endangered language communities in 15 countries. Living Tongues
researchers have also created eighty
Talking Dictionaries
to support these languages. We provide valuable digital skills training
to dozens of local collaborators who help build us the dictionaries. We
explore the uses of these digital resources by a variety of
stakeholders: speakers, educators, linguists, language activists, and
technologists.
