Invictus Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been setting up online tutoring arrangements since 2012. We currently operate in Bangladesh, Ghana, India, and Uganda with plans to expand into other countries.
It is our belief at Invictus Institute that one of the most effective ways to improve the world is to empower individuals who then benefit the community around them. We arrange consistent mentoring and tutoring of individuals to inspire them and help them reach their potential. Our volunteers digitally meet weekly with students (via Skype) and help them grow educationally by helping them with their schoolwork so the student internalizes what they are learning in school.
There are many deficiencies in education systems around the globe. In Uganda, for example, it is common for students to be in classrooms with 100+ students. Teachers are paid very little so they often take up 2-3 jobs and are unable to help students on a personal level. Teacher turnover is high, so students will often see a few different teachers in a school year. Universal education policies have helped improve enrollment, which is around 75% for primary school, but by secondary school the enrollment percentage drops to 15%. As often is the case, girls suffer the most from these deficiencies.
Our solution at Invictus Institute is to digitally reach as many kids as possible and create one-on-one mentorships to help kids reach their potential. As they do so, they will chart a new course for their families and improve their communities. Our goal is to be tutoring thousands and thousands of kids in these international communities.
