Scouts for Equality
Scouts for Equality is a Boy Scouts of America alumni association dedicated to ending the BSA’s ban on gay youth and parents. As Scouts, we believe discrimination goes against the values our movement teaches us and has no place in Scouting’s future.
On June 17, 2012, the Boy Scouts of America publicly re-affirmed their ban on gay members and leaders. After a seven-month campaign by Scouts for Equality, the BSA announced in January 2013 that its national board would consider a proposal to end its ban during their next national board meeting in February. However, the BSA has postponed their decision to their next National Council meeting.
At the end of May 2013, approximately 1,400 volunteer BSA leaders will vote on a proposal to end the BSA’s membership policy that bans gay youth and leaders from participating in the organization. We’re building a grassroots movement of former and current Scouts and Scout leaders to encourage local leaders and Councils to support the BSA’s adoption of a non-discriminatory membership policy.
