The American Foundation for Addiction Research (AFAR) envisions a world free of addiction and trauma. It is our mission to empower those who are in recovery, eradicate the stigma of addition, and mobilize resources—scientific, political and grass roots—to improve treatment and promote social change. AFAR funds scientific research into the neurobiology of trauma and addiction, and provides educational programming to clinicians, policy makers and the recovery community. We address the full spectrum of addiction: process addiction (sex, gambling, food, shopping) as well as substance abuse. We stand for service, collaboration, respect, integrity, pioneering and transparency in all we do.
