Proyecto de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Cultrales
Proyecto de Derechos Económicos, Sociales y Culturales, A.C (PRODESC) is a non-governmental organization founded in 2005. The organization’s primary mission is the defense of economic, social and cultural rights of underrepresented workers and communities in Mexico. ProDESC achieves this goal through integral defense of workers and communities that systemically contributes to the enforcement, justiciability and accountability of these rights.
ProDESC defends economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) through the promotion and accompaniment of communities and workers affected by ESCR violations. ProDEC works solely with collective entities including communal landowners, coalitions of landowners, coalitions of workers, and local membership-based advocacy groups that represent various community interests and other labor rights organizations throughout Mexico. Recent efforts by the government to incentivize private investment has forced these communities and workers to engage with large transnational companies. The Mexican government, at both the state and federal level, has provided broad-scale support for these companies. The greatest obstacle for these community and worker collectives, therefore, is the gap between economic and political power between these companies and the collectives that own the land or provide the labor where those companies wish to work
