Harlem Day Charter School of New York

Harlem Day Charter School, located in the heart of Harlem at 240 East 123rd Street, has been established by a charter granted by the State University of New York. The school offers parents a free alternative to the public school system as provided by the New York State Charter School law. Students are selected using a lottery system and classes average 20 students per classroom. Harlem Day opened on September 5, 2001 with students in grades K and 1, and is now fully enrolled with 240 students in grades K through 5.

Harlem Day Charter School’s mission is to ensure that its students are equipped with the skills and behaviors to think critically and succeed in a competitive world. We accomplish this by holding our students to high standards in a child centered and developmentally appropriate environment, where they grow academically, socially and morally. Partnerships with parents and community groups are essential to achieving these goals. In all subjects, an emphasis is placed on enhancing children’s natural curiosity about the world around them.
