About Us

AccountAbility was established in 1995 as a not-for profit, membership organization to promote approaches to accountability that advanced the cause and practice of sustainable development. AccountAbility has a multi-stakeholder governance model, with our 250+ members made up of civil society organizations, research bodies and businesses electing our international Council, which currently includes representatives from Brazil, China, India, Malaysia, North America, South Africa, Russia, the UK and continental Europe. More or less all our work is through partnerships, which range collaborations with various parts of the UN (UNEP and the UN Global Compact), organizations such as the Global Reporting Initiative, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Washington D.C., to Instituto Ethos in Brazil and Boston College for Corporate Citizenship in Boston.
