Accounting Careers Awareness Program
ACAP® stands for the Accounting Career Awareness Program. The mission of ACAP® is to increase the number of underrepresented minority high school students that attend college, major in accounting and go on to successful careers in the accounting field. This program was originally established in Seattle in 1980 and has gone on to become a nationally delivered program in various marketplaces across the country. Each of these programs is managed at a local level with the support of a Board of Advisors.
Most of ACAP®'s efforts are focused on the delivery of a week-long, summer residency program at the University of Washington Foster School of Business. The residency program provides an innovative curriculum that introduces the students to college-level business courses and other content that develops their financial literacy and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in an accounting career. Students also have the opportunity to network with University of Washington faculty, leaders from the business community and other ACAP® alumni. All students selected for the residency week receive scholarships covering the total cost of tuition, room and board, books, supplies, entertainment, and transportation. Beyond the residency program, ACAP® alumni are supported with continued networking and mentoring opportunities as well as financial support for college through scholarships.
