About Us

Our nonprofit works in Africa and the Caribbean. Our mission is to improve income for farmers, producers and artisans of distinctive products via Intellectual Property and business strategies.

Working with Ethiopian coffee farmers, Light Years IP helped to brand distinctive coffee such as Sidamo, Yirgacheffe, and Harar and create a licensing program, returning $US101 million to coffee farmers in its first year.

From this success, we have been funded to help farmers and producers, and artisans in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mali, Senegal, Mozambique, and in the Caribbean countries of Jamaica, Belize, Grenada and Barbados.

Our strategies combine business strategies such as farmer and artisan stakeholder groups and controlling more of the supply chain, and legal strategies such as trademarks and brand control.

Over the next five years, we have a large-scale education and training program planned to disburse these strategies widely throughout Africa and the Caribbean.
