About Us

Sequoia NJB is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing young people through basketball. Sequoia's boundaries cover Redwood City and north through San Francisco, CA. Season runs from Oct - Feb. Sequoia Chapter

The Sequoia NJB chapter was founded in 2009 by outpouring of the community. Many people including the staff of Sequoia High School were instrumental in its creation. Thanks to many, Sequoia NJB blossomed to over 100 players and twelve teams in less than three months time.

Sequoia NJB is a non-profit organization dedicated to developing young people through the sport of basketball. Sequoia's boundaries cover Redwood City, CA and north up through and including San Francisco, CA.The mission of the NJB program is to: Inspire our youth; regardless of race, color, creed, or national origin. Practice the ideals of health, citizenship and character. To implant the game elements of safety, sanity, and intelligent supervision; and to keep the welfare of the player first, foremost, and entirely free of adult lust for glory. Emphasize teamwork for all participants.

NJB League Background

National Junior Basketball is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Dennis Murphy, Jr. in 1984. Murphy was previously a coach at Garden Grove High School in Orange County California, when he had vision of a youth basketball league based on sportsmanship and player development.

NJB has grown into a national youth league with chapters in over 200 cities in 15 states. NJB offers three Divisional Programs for boys and girls in 3rd through 8th grade. The High School Program is for 9th through 12th grade players who do not play for their high school teams. NJB also offers the All-Net Program for the advanced players in 5th through 8th grade.
