About Us

The Mission of the Los Angeles Community Action Network (LA CAN) is to help people dealing with poverty create and discover opportunities while serving as a vehicle to ensure we have voice, power, and opinion in the decisions that are directly affecting us.

Since 1999, LA CAN has worked to end homelessness and poverty in the Los Angeles and, specifically, the Skid Row community of Downtown LA. Our vision for social change is based on the idea that those most impacted by these issues should be at the forefront of the movements to change the systems that perpetuate homelessness, poverty, gentrification and displacement, institutional racism, food insecurity, etc. We are a membership based organization that utilizes leadership development and community organizing to win concrete victories for our communities and members and improve the material conditions of our neighborhoods.
