Korean American Family Service Center of NY

The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is a community-based nonprofit organization assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and promoting healthy family and peer relationships in the Korean American community. Founded in 1989 by a group of women who recognized the need to help battered Korean women, the Center began as an all-volunteer group working out of a church basement. Sixteen years later, we are a fully-staffed community-based nonprofit organization funded by the state, city, and private foundations as well as corporations and individual donors.

We provide a wide range of free bilingual programs and services to over 1000 individuals each year, which include a 24-hour crisis hotline, individual and group counseling, "Rainbow House" emergency shelter, Transitional Housing program, court advocacy, support groups, children and youth programs, parenting workshops, and information and referral services. In addition to empowering victims and families, KAFSC also raises awareness by educating the community at large about domestic violence specific to Korean Americans.
