    Since 2000, Metrolina Regional Scholars' Academy has provided specialized K-8 educational instruction to children of high intellectual ability in a multi-county area around Charlotte. A publicly funded charter school, Scholars' Academy strives to prepare its graduates to make original contributions to society. Since 2003, Scholars' Academy has been designated a North Carolina Honor School of Excellence, as affirmed by student test scores that rank among the highest in the country. In 2011, Scholars' Academy was named National Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. The culturally diverse body of 350 students represents all socio-economic backgrounds and has produced state and national champions in math, science, poetry, literature, and chess.
