CATCCO is located in the small town of Ollantaytambo, Peru, in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Inca, between Cusco and Machu Picchu. The town, home to a major Inca fortress, has a rich history and its population and heritage are a distinct mestizo-indigenous mix.
At CATCCO, we believe that the history and cultural heritage of the people of Ollantaytambo are its greatest resource; thus, our mission is to secure the role of traditional culture and the arts as an integral component of the social and economic development of Ollantaytambo and its surrounding indigenous communities.
CATCCO was founded in 1997 as a small ethnographic museum. It has had a long and varied history. Currently, CATCCO is undergoing a difficult transition and has no functioning programs.
Some of CATCCO's programs have been continued under a different organization, Awamaki and Awamaki U.S. See www.awamaki.org.
