About Us

The California Public-Interest Advocates Guild (CPIAG), a non-profit organization located in the City of San Diego, provides policy-driven community organizations with access to new attorneys and counselors at law through its New Lawyer Advocates (NLAs) program. Subject to available funding, CPIAG employs NLAs to advise and represent organizations that typically do not have sustained, dedicated access to legal counsel. NLAs provide these services, generally for up to two years at a time, under the supervision of private-practice mentor attorneys with experience in the client’s field. NLAs learn about practicing law in the private sector while providing substantial professional assistance to their community.

NLAs with student loans may qualify for the federal government’s Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. (See https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service for more information.)
