SURGE, Students United for a Responsible Global Environment
About Us
SURGE is a network of organizations and individuals working nonviolently for positive social change. SURGE began at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in late 1998 as a student organization, and has grown into a nonprofit that networks students from all over North America, especially in North Carolina. SURGE currently includes chapters, affiliates, and contacts from more than 150 high schools, universities, and community colleges! Our ultimate objective is to promote greater strength in numbers and unity. We hope to be a catalyst to mobilize sometimes fragmented groups around certain pressing, shared issues in order to increase overall effectiveness, and to be a force of cohesion between groups with a shared vision of social and environmental responsibility.
