About Us

One Million Lights is a non-profit based in Palo Alto whose mission is to distribute one million solar LED lights to children and adults in the developing world in order to help them break out of the cycle of poverty. Artificial solar lights save much-needed income from being spent on fuel for kerosene lamps, the most widely used light in rural and impoverished areas. They also allow children who work all day to support the family to study at night and gain an education that can mean the difference between a life of poverty and success. Adults can also work later into the night on income generating projects. The simple addition of solar technology provides a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly alternative to kerosene lamps that can give a family the tools to get out of poverty.
