American Livestock Breeds Conservancy
American Livestock Breeds Conservancy is a non-profit, member organization dedicated to the promotion and conservation of endangered breeds of livestock. These breeds represent an irreplacable part of global genetic diversity and are critical to the future of agriculture and food security. ALBC has 3program areas: 1. Direct conservation includes research in breed demographics, characteristics, and utilization; a gene bank;and rescues of significant genetic populations. 2. Public education is focused on technical support to breeders and breed associations, public awareness of the need for agricultural genetic diversity. 3. Promotion of sustainable agriculture which provides an appropriate production habitat for many heritage breeds since they were developed in an era of sustainability.
