  • About Us

Women Defending Peace is a coalition of organizations and individuals who are committed to work toward peace through the empowerment of women.

The Coalition was born at a conference of the same name held in Geneva in November, 2004. The conference was co-hosted by the Suzanne Mubarak Women’s International Peace Movement (SMWIPM) and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Members of the resulting coalition include Nobel laureates, presidents of intergovernmental bodies, directors of UN agencies, and leaders of civil society.

We have three main focus areas:

    1. Strengthen the role of women in promoting peace; 2. Protect women and children in times of war, occupation, and conflict from all forms of violence and exploitation; 3. Bring to justice those responsible for war crimes and genocide and stop the trafficking of human beings.
