About Us
The Chicago Free School is a democratic free school on the South Side of Chicago serving grades pre-K through 8 since 2014.
We are a student-centered, caring community where students direct their own learning and participate in democratic processes to resolve conflicts and make decisions about the school.
We emphasize student-directed learning that is hands-on, authentic, and joyful. We believe students learn best when they follow their own path led by genuine curiosity. In order to best foster self-motivation, we do not give grades or standardized tests.
As we build an inclusive school community, we aim to be affordable to every family through sliding-scale tuition. We educate students and ourselves about social justice and anti-oppression.
