About Us

Founded in 2004, the Bo M. Karlsson Foundation (BMKF) works to empower unprivileged young women in Nepal through higher education. Over the past decade, BMKF has awarded 71 scholarships to 38 women in Nepal for college and trade school programs. BMKF scholars are pursuing certificate and degree programs in business, education, engineering, health, humanities, nursing, social work, rural development, and more.

Mission

We believe that by helping one individual at a time, we can make a positive change in the world and have a meaningful connection with that individual. Through higher education scholarships, we help young women in Nepal develop the skills and education to beome self-reliant, confident, and productive citizens in their own country.

Background

Women in Nepal face numerous challenges to education, including poverty as well as cultural biases related to gender, caste, ethnicity, and disabilities. Less than 3% of women go on to college and many girls (nearly half) are married by age 16.
