  • About Us

The Lower 9th Ward Homeownership Association (L9WHA) was formed in 2006 in response to the needs expressed by residents trying to return home after the levees failed. Our mission is to improve the quality of life in our historic neighborhood through community redevelopment, and to find and bring home all displaced homeowners who want to return.

Through our House the 9 Program, we successfully advocated for new state and federal policies that have made millions of dollars in additional rebuilding funds available for displaced homeowners across Louisiana. Putting these policies into action, we have qualified 34 Lower 9th Ward families for $4 million to rebuild their homes. Another 200 families still need our help.
