The Statesman Group is a collaboration of moderate journalists, scholars and former politicians who support and strengthen civility in government. We believe that the continued polarization of America has paralyzed our government, disheartened our citizens, and now threatens the very future of our country.
Our country has always been politically diverse. There are fundamental differences in American political philosophy, but what has changed is our willingness to listen to each other and see the other side of the coin. Our media has awarded the dividers, while our political environment has alienated our brightest and most reasonable citizens from joining public service.
The Statesman Group aims to reverse this trend by: • Award and honor politicians who have displayed statesmanship in office • Encourage and protect moderate public servants • Diffuse a polarized citizenry through education and outreach
