Yunus Negocios Sociales Colombia (Before Grameen Caldas)
Grameen is a vast international conglomerate of mostly non-profit companies that have been created by Professor Muhammad Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his achievements in global poverty reduction.
Yunus Negocios Sociales (Before Grameen Caldas) is a brand new member of the Grameen/Yunus Social Business family of businesses, which has just been founded here in Manizales, Colombia. Applying a highly innovative development approach, we are combining the benefits of microfinance with those of Yunus's social business concept in order to tackle the region's most pressing issues mainly in the areas of nutrition, healthcare, housing and education.
With the ultimate goal of lifting the entire region out of poverty, we are currently setting up the microfinance organization as well as a social business fund which will provide financing to promising social business ventures. Still unique in the world, this company will lay the foundation for a new way of approaching local, regional and international development.
