The Doula Program to Accompany and Comfort's mission is to minimize the isolation and loneliness experienced by individuals with life limiting illness who are facing the end of their lives alone.
The Doula Program is the only organization of its kind specializing in training and supervising volunteers who visit individuals facing the end of life alone. The Program was initiated through a pilot in 2001.
The Doula Program volunteers visit weekly individuals in hospitals, healthcare facilitiies and in homes. The Program's professional staff provide ongoing continuing education and support for all volunteers.
The Doula Program also provides national and international consultation to organizations on implementing similar services and providing professional education.
