About Us

HOPE (Health for Oakland's People and Environment) Collaborative is a community collaborative working to advance racial, economic, and health equity in Oakland's food system and built environment. We envision a vibrant Oakland where historically marginalized communities shape their neighborhoods’ future, have equitable opportunities for healthy food and safe community spaces, and build community wealth.

We work on multiple levels to support community-driven environmental change in the following areas:

  • Sustainable and Equitable Food Systems: We support policies, programs and practices that increase equitable access to fresh, healthy, affordable food, and invest in local, sustainable, economic development.
  • Healthy and Safe Built Environments: We engage community members in creating changes in their neighborhoods to increase active living and social cohesion.
  • Community Engagement and Leadership Development: We support community members and youth to develop skills and knowledge for engaging in policy-making to create change in the food system and built environment.
