About Us

Pride College Prep is a first year charter school in New Orlean that currently serves pre-kindergarten through 2nd grade. We are one of four “transformation” charter schools in the city placed within existing low performing schools to take over the earliest grades and grow to add a grade each year until we arrive at K-8. Our school is “transforming” Gregory Elementary in Gentilly where only 36% of fourth graders in 2008 passed the Louisiana English Language Arts exam. We currently serve 132 students ages 4-9 years old in grades pre-K through 2nd. Next year we will grow to support 250 pre-K through 3rd graders.

At Pride College Prep our mission is to nourish each of our students to excel in college. We are a year-round school, meaning our students are never out of school for more than 3 weeks to maximize student learning and retention. Our school day runs from 7:45am-4:15pm, and we offer enrichment until 5pm daily. Every day, our pre-K students receive 180 minutes of well-planned, differentiated reading and writing instruction. In kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, this increases to 225 minutes of high-quality, rigorous English Language Arts every day. This strong foundation in literacy, in addition to extra time in math, science, and social studies, guides each student toward exceeding the highest standards.
