Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, more than two million people have been forced to evacuate, fleeing to neighboring countries such as Poland, Hungary, Romania, and Slovakia. And as this unethical and disturbing situation continues, it is estimated that as many as four million civilians may flee from Ukraine in the coming months.

Relief efforts are underway, with many organizations and grassroots initiatives helping to raise funding and provide refugees with needed humanitarian and medical supplies, shelter, and food. Below are a few important actions you can take to support Ukrainian refugees in need:

World Central Kitchen, Washington, D.C.

World Central Kitchen is a nonprofit with a network of volunteers helping to feed communities during times of crisis. The World Central Kitchen team is currently helping to deliver, cook, and serve meals to refugees seeking shelter in Przemysl, Poland. Sign up as a chef or non-chef volunteer to support their efforts and follow them at #ChefsforUkraine

Airbnb

Airbnb has announced that the company will provide free, short-term housing for up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees. Airbnb is seeking hosts that can provide free or discounted rentals for refugees during this time.

The Ukrainian Red Cross, Kyiv, Ukraine

The Ukrainian Red Cross is a nonprofit organization in Ukraine that helps with disaster management. During the current crisis, the Ukrainian Red Cross is helping to distribute food and humanitarian items to civilians and is assisting evacuees. Donate funds to help aid their Ukraine Emergency Appeal efforts to support people in the affected area.

Global Giving, Washington, D.C.

Global Giving is a DC-based organization supporting other nonprofits through connections to donors and companies. You can donate to their Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund to help support Ukrainians in need. Proceeds will provide shelter, food, and water for refugees and help offer access to education and economic assistance.

Razom for Ukraine, New York, NY

Razom for Ukraine is an NYC-based nonprofit organization helping to promote Ukrainian democracy and support democracy activists and human rights advocates. Razom for Ukraine has created an emergency response resource page that lists multiple ways to help, including participating in #STANDWITHUKRAINE rallies, details for contacting elected officials to support Ukraine, and other donation relief efforts. You can also sign up to volunteer with Razom for Ukraine and donate directly to their relief efforts.

Veselka, New York, NY

Veselka, a Ukrainian restaurant in the NYC area, is donating all of the sales of its borscht to Ukrainian relief efforts. Veselka is also collecting donations of items such as baby diapers, baby formula, quick meals, individually packed snacks, and more for Ukrainian refugees. People in the NYC area can drop off their donations at their 9th Street entrance.

Afya Foundation, Yonkers, NY

Afya Foundation is a nonprofit organization that rescues unused medical supplies and equipment from hospitals, nursing homes, and organizations in the NYC area to support worldwide health initiatives. You can visit their Disaster Response Hub to donate humanitarian supplies, including personal hygiene kits, baby diapers, flashlights, and face masks, as well as medical supplies. Additionally, you can visit their Amazon Wish List to purchase medical supplies for Ukrainian refugees.

Sunflower of Peace, Boston, MA

Sunflower of Peace is a nonprofit organization helping to aid internally displaced Ukrainian individuals and orphans. Sunflower of Peace is currently collecting medical supplies donations and is seeking volunteers to help with their efforts.
